A 6-year-old girl is in critical condition after being ejected from a vehicle during a crash in Schuylkill County Saturday afternoon.
According to information from State Police-Schuylkill Haven, the crash happened along Seltzer Road, near New St., in Norwegian Township at around 12:30 p.m. It began snowing in the Pottsville area about an hour prior.
Police say a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old man with 4 passengers inside, including 3 children ranging in age from 6 to 10, was traveling south on Seltzer Rd. At the same time, a vehicle driven by a 60-year-old woman was traveling north on the same road.
At the time of the crash, the vehicle driven by the 19-year-old began to slide going around a left curve. The back passenger-side quarter panel struck the front driver side bumper of the vehicle driven by the 60-year-old.
Upon impact, the 6-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining serious injuries. Police say the girl was taken from the scene to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East in Pottsville and then to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest by ambulance.
At last report, according to police the girl is now being treated for serious injuries at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She’s listed in critical condition.
The 19-year-old driver of that vehicle was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-East for treatment of minor injuries. The 60-year-old driver of the second vehicle was also taken to that hospital with minor injuries.
All other passengers in the vehicle driven by the 19-year-old – a 37-year-old woman and two children, a 9-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy – were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment of injuries.
