National Weather Service-State College has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Schuylkill County and much of central Pennsylvania.
The Winter Storm Watch goes into effect on Saturday morning, Jan. 6, and expires on Sunday morning, Jan. 7.
Right now, NWS is predicting between 4-7 inches of snow to fall on the area from this storm. A light glazing of ice is also possible due to a wintry mix of precipitation.
Traveling during this winter storm could become especially dangerous from Saturday afternoon and night. Snowfall rates of more than 1 inch per hour are expected Saturday night.
Anywhere along the Interstate 81 and Interstate 80 corridors could see the heaviest snowfall from this storm, NWS predicts.
This snowfall forecast is likely to change, especially the line where more mixed precipitation could fall, reducing snowfall totals.
