Schuylkill County has new dog license fees in effect.
The new prices are a slight increase and are being blamed on postage increases. These new fees went into place on Dec. 1 and will expire on Jan. 31, 2024.
The fees are basically the same after Jan. 31 for the rest of 2024 but there won’t be a discount available for licensing a spayed or neutered dog.
Here’s a breakdown of the changes:
Initial Fee Changes (Effective Dec. 1, 2023 – Jan. 31, 2024):
- Regular dog license fees (for male/female dogs) are $8.70.
- Spayed/neutered dogs qualify for a reduced fee of $6.70.
- For senior or disabled dog owners, the regular fee is $6.70, and it’s $4.70 for spayed/neutered dogs that fit this category.
- Lifetime dog licenses are $51.70 for regular male/female dogs and $31.70 for spayed/neutered. For senior/disabled owners, the fees are $31.70 and $21.70, respectively.
Starting Feb. 1, the discount for spayed and neutered dogs goes away. And lifetime license fees will increase on this date:
- $52.70 for regular male/female dogs
- $36.70 for senior/disable dogs
Lifetime Licenses are available for microchipped dogs, requiring a Permanent Identification Verification Form completed by a veterinarian and a Lifetime Application.
This form is valid for 30 days post-completion by the veterinarian.
Non-compliance with licensing regulations could result in a summary offense, carrying a maximum fine of $300 per unlicensed dog.
