Lipton Tells Pottsville Parking Authority Board He’s Resigning

Ian Lipton, the Executive Director of Pottsville Parking Authority, told board members Friday morning that he’s quitting.

During a brief discussion on the extension of his contract, Lipton learned that board members didn’t want to give him a 3-year extension as he had wanted.

Instead, the board informed Lipton that he’d be contracted on a year-to-year basis.

Upon learning that, Lipton said, “I’ll be giving you my resignation.”

Lipton’s been the Executive Director of the Pottsville Parking Authority since late-2019 and assumed the role at a time when the city was just adopting the use of the ParkMobile app for parking.

Earlier in the meeting, the Parking Authority board was also faced with the prospect of handing out pay increases and “performance bonus” payments to employees and Lipton.

An initial motion to award Lipton a $5,000 net bonus resulted in a tie vote, which prompted board members to call an executive session. Following that closed-door meeting, board members voted to give Lipton a net bonus of $3,000.
