Pottsville native Travis Blankenhorn will return to Major League Baseball Friday night when his Washington Nationals continue their weekend series with the Miami Marlins.
Not only did he get the promotion on Friday, Blankenhorn will be in the starting lineup tonight vs. Miami. He’s slated to hit 5th and play left field.
The Nationals selected the contract of Blankenhorn on Friday. Blankenhorn has spent the entire 2023 season with the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings, where he’s been one of the team’s top performers.
Before being promoted, Blankenhorn hit .293 over his last 21 games, including 5 doubles, 1 triple, 8 homers, 18 RBI, drew 9 walks, and scored 18 runs.
Blankenhorn, 27, leads the Nationals organization in OPS (.877) and slugging percentage (.517) in 108 games with the Red Wings.
He ranked highly among Nationals Minor Leaguers in home runs (2nd, 23), RBI (2nd, 75), extra-base hits (2nd, 52), doubles (2nd, 27), runs (2nd, 67), total bases (T2nd, 203), on-base percentage (4th, .360), hits (4th, 103), walks (7th, 51) and batting average (8th, .262).
Blankenhorn has 25 games of MLB experience coming into his appearance tonight against the Marlins, appearing in games with the Minnesota Twins and New York Mets.
