For the second time in 2023, the Powerball jackpot has surged beyond half a billion dollars, reaching a monumental $522 million. Players have the potential to win $269.6 million in cash value in the next drawing scheduled for Monday, July 3.
Even though there were no big winners on the July 1 drawing, Saturday’s draw did see some winners, though.
Twenty-eight tickets matched four of the five white balls and the red Powerball, earning each winner a considerable prize. Twenty-two of these ticket holders received $50,000 each.
The prize doubled to $100,000 for six other tickets sold in Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Texas, and Virginia, as these players opted for the Power Play feature by spending an extra dollar.
Nationwide, the draw produced more than 998,000 winning tickets, resulting in players bagging lower-tier prizes totalling $7.1 million.
The last time someone won the Powerball jackpot was on April 19 with a ticket from Ohio matching all five white balls and the red Powerball, taking home a grand prize of $252.6 million. Since then, the jackpot has eluded players for 31 consecutive draws.
Earlier in the year, there were two more jackpot winners. A player from Washington walked away with a massive $754.6 million on February 6, 2023, and another in Virginia won a $162.6 million jackpot on March 4, 2023.
This current jackpot of $522 million still pales compared to the largest-ever Powerball jackpot of $2.04 billion won in California on November 7, 2022.
