Grace Elizabeth Sakusky, 92, of Tamaqua, died on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, in Tamaqua.
She was the wife of the late John T. Sakusky to whom she was married 59 years at the time of his death in June of 2008.
Born on December 16, 1930, in Tamaqua, Grace was the daughter of the late George P. and Anna Elizabeth (Sweeney) Krapf.
A 1947 graduate of Tamaqua High School, she worked for Wagner Electric in both Hazleton and Weatherly. Later Grace was employed as a teller at several Tamaqua area banks.
She served as a judge of elections in the community for many years. A member of St. John United Church of Christ, Tamaqua, Grace was on the church consistory and enjoyed being active at the church.
She had numerous friends and was a member of both the Tamaqua Area and the Rush/Ryan Seniors.
Her love of animals led her to be active with the Tamaqua Animal Rescue. When she wasn’t involved in her many outside activities, she enjoyed playing pinochle.
Grace is survived by son John Sakusky, Jr. of Owl Creek; grandchildren, Shaleen Klusman and her husband Brian of Tamaqua and Zac Blihar of Tamaqua; brother, Charles Krapf and his wife Yvonne of Reading; nephews and nieces; and former son-in-law, Albert Motz of Lehighton.
She was predeceased by daughter, Jacqueline Motz; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Sakusky just a day earlier; and brother, Clarence Krapf.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 27, at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with The Rev. Kevin Duffy-Guy officiating. Interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, West Broad Street, Tamaqua will follow the services. Call 6-8 PM on Monday, June 26 and 9:30-11 AM on Tuesday, June 27 at the funeral home.
