Bernadine Kates, age 80, of Barnesville, passed away Saturday morning at her home.
Born in Mahanoy City she was the daughter of the late John and Madeline (Petravage) Staconis.
She was a graduate of Immaculate Heart High School and was a member of BPOE 695 Ladies Auxiliary.
She last worked for the Victorian Bouquet Flower Shop formerly in Mahanoy City.
She was a member of the former Primitive Methodist Church and also St. John’s UCC in Tamaqua.
She enjoyed camping and playing Bingo.
She was preceded in death by a son Richard J. Williamson and a sister Teresa Konsavage.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years James Kates, her daughters Susan Kufrovich, Deborah Torick, Heather Nied and Melissa Benjamin, 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City.
The Rev. Robert George will officiate.
Interment will follow in St. Casimir’s Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
Contributions in her name to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the visitation.
