Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has declared a Code RED Air Quality Alert for Wednesday, June 7, for all of Central Pennsylvania, including Schuylkill County.
This emergency alert comes in response to widespread smoke affecting the state, stemming from numerous forest fires raging across eastern Canada. As of noon Wednesday in Schuylkill County, air quality has diminished significantly since this morning.
A Code RED Air Quality Alert signifies that air pollution levels in the region have reached unhealthy levels. According to health experts, exposure to such conditions might result in mild health complications for the general public. However, individuals belonging to sensitive groups, including those with respiratory conditions, the elderly, and young children, may face more severe health impacts.
