A ribbon cutting was held at Pilger Ruh Brewing in downtown Pottsville on Friday afternoon.
The ceremony hosted by Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce comes nearly 2 years after the business opened its doors at the former Coney Island restaurant location at 213 N. Centre St. in the city.
In the time since it opened in Pottsville, Pilger Ruh has become a destination for fans of craft beers and live entertainment.
Pilger Ruh is described as a nano brewery and brews what it sells on site. The business actually started in 2017 in Kulpmont before moving to Pine Grove and then eventually its current spot in Pottsville.
Since opening in Pottsville, Pilger Ruh has expanded to include a location in Gettysburg.
Getting to the point of opening its Pottsville location was no small feat.
Construction on revamping the former Coney Island restaurant began in November 2020. The owners opened their doors in July 2021.
Co-owner Tyler Budwash said on Friday that the company’s slogan of being community crafted is more than just a slogan, “We’re not lying when we say we’re community crafted. Everyone came together to make sure we got to where we had to be. That was very heartwarming.”
Pottsville Mayor Dave Clews, a business owner himself, spoke Friday about the entrepreneurial spirit and how the Pilger Ruh ownership group embodies it.
“We’re talking about a real group of entrepreneurs here,” Clews said. “They got their hands dirty. They worked diligently. That’s entrepreneurs. That’s people with a goal and a dream and now they’re living it. I couldn’t be prouder as a Mayor to watch that kind of business be built in my hometown in downtown Pottsville.
Pilger Ruh is open Thursdays through Sundays at its Pottsville location.
