The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary, Cindy Adams Dunn, announced the appointment of Robert Sweeney as the new park manager for the Tuscarora State Park Complex in Schuylkill County. Sweeney brings valuable leadership experience and a willingness to take on new challenges in his role as park manager.
Secretary Dunn expressed confidence in Sweeney’s abilities, stating, “We are looking forward to seeing the impact he will have shaping the operations at the Tuscarora complex and believe his skillset will be a tremendous addition to the community.”
In his new role, Sweeney will manage both the 1,618-acre Tuscarora State Park and the 1,772-acre Locust Lake State Park. Each park features a lake, fishing, hiking, camping, and various recreational opportunities for visitors to enjoy.
Sweeney shared his excitement about the new position, saying, “This new role is a fun challenge and I am excited for the opportunity to make a difference at these parks. I can already tell these are beloved parks that are very important to the locals and beyond.”
Before his appointment, Sweeney served as the manager at Chapman State Park and worked as an assistant park manager at Nockamixon State Park in Bucks County. A native of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Sweeney obtained an undergraduate degree from the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Environmental Science and Forestry. After graduating, he moved to California to work as an outdoor educator before returning to Pennsylvania. In 2018, Sweeney joined the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps, which he credits for helping him gain a deeper understanding of how state parks operate.
