Francis “Fritz” Steranko, age 93, of Schoentown, passed away Saturday, February 25th, 2023 at his home.
Born in Schoentown on April 28, 1929, he was the son of the late Stephen and Kathryn (Kritak) Steranko.
Francis was a graduate of Port Carbon Soldier’s Memorial High School, Class of 1947.
He served in the U.S. Army from June 14, 1947, until December 13, 1948.
Francis worked as pipefitter for Local Union 524 in Scranton and then worked at ALCOA in Cressona until retiring.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Saint Clair.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Veronica Mary (Wojciechowski) Steranko on October 27, 2021 and a brother Raymond Steranko.
Francis is survived by his two daughters: Jean Felix and her husband Andrew, Ashland and Carol Kaunas and her husband Robert, Schnecksville; his grandson Kurtis Kaunas; and his granddaughter Kiera Kaunas; two sisters: Joan Subulak, Schoentown and Laverne Marx, Exton.
Office of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon, with Rev. James Carroll officiating.
Interment with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday March 7th at 12:30PM at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.
