Former US President Jimmy Carter is receiving hospice care at home.
The Carter Center released a statement on the former President’s health Saturday afternoon. It reads:
“After a series of short hospital stays, former US President Jimmy Carter decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention. He has the full support of his family and his medical team. The Carter family asks for privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his many admirers.”
Carter is 98 years old, the longest living President in the history of the United States.
Despite his advanced age, Carter has famously attempted to remain active, namely through his work with The Jimmy & Rosalyn Carter Work Project, which aims to build homes through Habitat for Humanity.
All of us at Habitat for Humanity are lifting up President and Mrs. Carter in prayer as he enters hospice care. We pray for his comfort and for their peace.— Habitat_org (@Habitat_org) February 18, 2023
Carter was the 39th President of the United States and served from 1977 until 1981.
