Harold Monroe Felty, 97 of Suedberg Rd., Pine Grove, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at home.
Born on July 27, 1925 at home in Wayne Township, he was a son of the late Monroe and Dora Reber Felty.
Harold was the owner of Harold M. Felty Sales and Service and Harold M. Felty Trucking Co. in Pine Grove.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Pine Grove. He was also a member of the American Trucking Assoc., Moose Lodge in Lebanon and was on the Board of Directors at the former Sovereign Bank, Pine Grove.
Harold was a self-made man.
At a young age, he worked around the coal mines with his dad and Marie’s dad. He also worked the family farm raising animals, growing vegetables and fruit from trees the family had planted.
His pride and joy were the mules he used to work the farm fields.
He worked as a mechanic at Roy Schneck’s garage in Pine Grove and got his start in the trucking industry with Harvey Herring of Ravine hauling coal.
He increased his fleet of one to a fleet of over 60 trucks in his lifetime with his son Alan. He prided himself in being an International Harvester Dealer or Navastar as it is known today and being the inhouse carrier for Glen Gery Brick Company for over 50 years.
He was one of the few successful people that produced and transported coal silt material to the port of Camden, New Jersey, destined for the country of Korea for many years.
He supervised the blending, drying, transporting, and storage of the material at Camden’s yard and the loading of the ship in 24 hours. This consisted of 35, 000 metric tons.
Harold would give credit for his success to all his employees and drivers that worked for his company for many years and he would say they were the “life-line” of the company.
He made great friends over the years. A special thanks to Anna Wiscount who was the office manager for over 50 years, and Marlin Knoll who was his first shop manager.
He enjoyed his motor home and traveling with Marie all over the United States and spending his winters at his place in Florida with her. She was the love of his life.
