Kay L. Hogan, 71 – Beauty Salon Owner

God wrapped his loving arms around a beloved mother, wife, Grandmother (MiMi), and Great-grandmother. Kay Lorraine Hogan, 71, of Ashland died peacefully Thursday evening at Serenity Gardens, Kulpmont surrounded by those close to her.

Kay battled Dementia/Alzheimer’s for eleven years with both grace and dignity, but it never stopped her from moving and grooving with a smile for her family and caregivers.

Kay loved to love people and by her fingertips she possessed the skill for 43 years making people beautiful as a beautician and owner of Tiffany’s Beauty Salon Mt Carmel.

Her life was a living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Kay was born in Ashland on August 27th, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Seltzer and Catherine (Davis) Bilder.

Kay was a 1969 graduate from Ashland High School and Empire Beauty School. She later went on to acquire her manager’s license and teacher’s license in Cosmetology. Kay worked for many years at Jim Helper’s Beauty Salon Ashland, before moving forward to open her own establishment which she spent the rest of her career before retiring in 2015.

Kay was a member of the Eastern Star and taught Sunday school at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church for many years, spreading the word of God to many young people to whom have never forgotten her.

Kay was a dedicated mother first and foremost to her one true love, her only child Tiffany. Kay made friends everywhere she went and everyone who came in touch with her, loved her. She never had the chance to realize the legacy and example of the true person she was, she will be dearly missed by so many.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Seltzer and Catherine Bilder, a brother Donald Bilder, a sister-in-law Patricia Krieger, a niece Leanne Krieger.

She is survived by her loving husband James W. Hogan, daughter Tiffany Kessler (Russel), Brother Byron Bilder (Roberta), and sister Marilyn Miller (Howard-Decease). Grand children Brandon Mickatavage (Stacey), Chad Mickatavage (Sabrina), Jennifer Jurgil (Christopher), and Eric Kessler (Corissa). Great grandchildren Emily, Braeden, Paetyn, Evelyn, Violet, Victor, Nova, Quinn, and Ashton. Nieces Jill Burkholder, Leslie Hebert. Nephews Allen Bilder, Rodney Miller.

A “Celebration of Life Service” will be held Saturday January 28th at 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Presbyterian Church 200 N. 9th Street Ashland, PA. A visitation for family and friends will be held in the church from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church. Interment with be at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Serenity Gardens and Advantage Hospice for the amazing and wonderful care Kay received during her stay there. As well as the kindness and compassion given to the family during her time of passing over to her forever eternal home.
