2 Shot – Schuylkill County Man Facing Attempted Homicide Charges

Police were responding to a domestic fight.

Two people were found with gunshot wounds in Schuylkill County Sunday morning. And a Wayne Township man is facing attempted homicide charges as a result.

According to State Police in Schuylkill Haven, they arrived at 101 Ridge Rd. in Wayne Twp. just after midnight on Sunday.

Police say they were responding to an “active domestic” incident between a father and son at that address. While en route, emergency dispatchers informed police that 2 people at that Ridge Rd. address suffered gunshot wounds.

Troopers from the Schuylkill Haven barracks were joined at the scene in Wayne Twp. by State Police from Jonestown and Hamburg barracks.

Once police arrived, they say they found 24-year-old Aaron Hopkins, of Wayne Twp. and took him into custody without incident.

Troopers also provided medical assistance to 2 people there who’d been shot:

  • A 52-year-old woman who’d been shot in the arm
  • A 52-year-old man who’d been shot in the abdomen

The gunshot victims were taken by medical helicopters to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest and Reading Hospital, respectively.

Police say they were able to recover a “long rifle” at the scene in Wayne Twp.

Trooper Anthony Urban, of the PSP-Schuylkill Haven Criminal Investigation Unit, is filing attempted homicide charges against Hopkins, police say in information released Sunday.

Hopkins was arraigned before District Judge Edward Tarantelli on Sunday and sent to Schuylkill County Prison after he was unable to post bail.

At this time, no more details are available on this case. Formal charging papers have not been posted online.
