Gas prices keep going up in Schuylkill County.
And on Sunday, we hit a new record high average for a gallon of gas locally, hitting $4.78.
We couldn’t find it at that price but we did find all the stations in the Schuylkill Haven, Orwigsburg, and Cressona areas charging $4.79 a gallon for regular unleaded.
The price of diesel fuel was at $6.45 a gallon at the Mobil in Schuylkill Haven.
According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in Pennsylvania was at $4.77. And the average price nationwide is $4.59.
Gas Hits $4.79 in Schuylkill County
Nearby, you’re not going to save any money on gas either. Here are the average prices for a gallon of gas in counties surrounding Schuylkill:
- Luzerne: $4.83
- Columbia: $4.76
- Northumberland: $4.74
- Dauphin: $4.70
- Lebanon: $4.71
- Berks: $4.80
- Lehigh: $4.83
- Carbon: $4.78
The average price for diesel in Pennsylvania was $6.31 on Sunday. That’s up 17 cents from last week.
It definitely appears we’re headed to $5 a gallon here in Schuylkill County, and probably sooner rather than later. The price has gone up almost 15 cents a gallon over the last week. And it’s up nearly 57 cents over the last month.
We’ve set new records on gas prices each day for the last week.
And now that the unofficial start of summertime is fast approaching, demand for fuel will be on the rise, which will lead to another spike in prices.
At this point, the only thing that could stop gas prices from trending the way they’ve been is an economic recession, and wouldn’t that be lovely.

Tried to fill up my SUV on Saturday evening. I use premium grade, pump shut off at 100.00 I was not totally filled.
Happy? No.
As owners of a business, that was considered necessary, my husband (over 60 years of age) worked during covid. No stimulus money came into this house. So we work during covid, no “bonus” for doing that.
Did all we could to keep our heads above water during the Obama years, felt relief when Trump got in. Now we’re back into the crapper – and I know we are not alone. Just needed to vent a bit.
While I am venting, yes I voted for Trump, but I think he needs to take a damn seat and keep his nose, and opinions, out of PA politics!
That would be a good survey – should Trump be telling us who to vote for?
End of rant! HA!

What’s even worse is that no PA politicians are acting, in any way, to pause the gas tax, which is the HIGHEST IN THE COUNTRY at 57 cents/gallon, and all that you hear from news outlets and talking heads is the “normalization” of high cost fuel. It’s a supply and demand market, but something is terribly amiss here and NOBODY, including this worthless, feckless sh@t show of an administration, is doing anything about it, nor seems to care.
