The sixth trial date for Magen Hall, the woman accused of murdering Pottsville businessman Pat Murphy in a New Orleans hotel room in 2019, has been set.
Court records show that a judge in Louisiana has set a new trial date for July 25, 2022. Six previous attempts at getting a trial started in this case have failed for a variety of reasons.
Hall has been in Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans since early March 2019. Police say just a few days prior, Hall stabbed Murphy to death in a second-floor room at The Empress Hotel.
According to court records, the following trial dates have been set and then re-scheduled since Hall entered Orleans Parish Justice Center in March 2019:
- Oct. 8, 2019
- March 23, 2020
- April 20, 2020
- Sept. 27, 2021
- April 18, 2022
Courts in Louisiana were closed due to COVID starting on March 23, 2020 and the April 2020 trial date was selected prior to courts closing.
Hall, who also goes by the first name Megan, faces life in prison if she’s found guilty on the second-degree murder charge she’s facing. She also faces an armed robbery and obstruction of justice charge.
