Pottsville native Travis Blankenhorn was designated for assignment by the New York Mets on Wednesday.
Blankenhorn opened the 2022 season with the Syracuse Mets at the Triple-A level. In the team’s Opening Day game, he went 2-for-3 at the plate, with a walk and a strikeout. He was stranded on base after each of his singles in the Mets loss to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Blankenhorn did not appear in Syracuse’s game on Wednesday.
By designating him for assignment, it removed him from the Mets 40-man roster, clearing a space for former Phillies outfield Travis Jankowski.
Any MLB team can now claim Blankenhorn off waivers. If he clears waivers, he could return to Syracuse and the Mets organization.
