The second boy who fell into an icy pond in Schuylkill County earlier this week has died.
According to information released Friday by State Police in Schuylkill Haven, the 4-year-old boy died at 2:11 Thursday afternoon. That’s a little less than 17 hours after his brother, 5, died as a result of the same tragedy.
The second boy had been taken to Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Delaware after his mother rescued him from a frozen pond along Molino Rd. in West Brunswick Twp. on Wednesday evening.
The two brothers reportedly fell into the pond and their mother was able to get the youngest child from the icy water. However, she was not able spot her older child in the pond at that time.
A rescue dive team from Schuylkill Haven Fire Dept. was able to pull the 5-year-old from water and he was rushed to Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital in Orwigsburg and then flown by medical helicopter to Geisinger Hospital in Danville. However, that boy died at 9:12 Wednesday night.
His younger brother was first taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest and then flown to the hospital in Delaware.
Police have ruled the deaths accidental.
