Arthur J. Miller, Sr., 86 – Softball Pitcher, League Bowler, Bible Reader

Arthur J. Miller, Sr., 86, Pottsville, was called home to the Lord Sunday October 17th.

Born April 1, 1935 in Pottsville, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Zimmerman) Miller.

He was a graduate of the former Branch Township High School. As a member of the Bible Tabernacle Pentecostal Church, Schuylkill Haven, he served as head Deacon and Song Leader. He was a also a member of the Four Square Gospel Church, Muir.

He volunteered his time coaching the Branch Township Little League; was the pitcher for “Shadle’s Garage” slow pitch softball team; and belonged to bowling leagues at the former Plaza Lanes, Pottsville.

Arthur began his career in the construction industry then became employed by the former Paper Box Factory, Schuylkill Haven, where he met a sweet girl named Shirley Mae Geist who he would fall in love with and spend 66 years in wedded bliss. He became employed by the former Quaker Maid Kitchens and eventually retire from the Hexcel Corporation at the age of 76.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Shirley Mae (Geist) Miller (December 6, 2020); a son Arthur J. Miller, Jr. (June 11, 2021); brothers Lester, David, Horatio “Doc”, Clarence, and John; and sisters Dolores and Joyce.

“Our fondest memory of Dad was sitting in his recliner reading his Bible. We love you Dad”.

Surviving are sons Craig Miller husband of Joy; Duane Miller husband of Cindy; and Kevin Miller husband of Teresa; daughters Denise Adams and Brenda Somers wife of George; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother Earl Miller; sister Irene Uranko; and family dog Malachi.

Funeral services were celebrated with Pastor Doug Schwenk, Off. Interment at the Cressona Cemetery.
