Robert D. McCormick, 96 – US Army World War II Veteran

Robert D. McCormick, 96, of Pottsville, passed away Tuesday, October 19th, at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, on September 8, 1925, he was a son of the late Robert J. & Mary S. (Sands) McCormick.

He was the widower of Anna M. (Ryan) McCormick, who passed away in 1994.

Robert was a graduate of Pottsville Area School District in 1944.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, Pottsville Catholic War Veterans and a life member of the American Hose Co.

He served in the US Army and the US Army Air Corps. He was in combat during WWII and was discharged in Germany in 1946. He re-enlisted and was stationed at the 4400th Air Base group as a member of the military police at West Point Air Field. He was honorably discharged a second time in 1949.

Robert was formerly employed by the 7 Up Bottling Co. for 17 years, clerk for Pottsville Economy Supply, 20 years and Pottsville Area School District as a bus driver for 10 years.

Robert is survived by his sons Donald McCormick husband of Deborah, Pottsville and Lawrence J. McCormick husband of Patricia, Farmington, MN; grandchildren Jeff McCormick, Rebecca Hillje and Michelle Dougherty; great grandchildren Michael McCormick, Ryan Hillje and Norah and Ewen Dougherty.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Committal service with military honors will follow mass at Calvary Cemetery’s chapel, Pottsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory may be made to St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
