Jean A. Weist, 91, Girardville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning at Providence Place, Pottsville.
Born in Girardville, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Coughlin Birster. She was employed as a clerk for Acme in Girardville and Frackville for 47 years before retiring.
Jean was a member of the former St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Girardville now St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Ashland. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Choir, the Catholic Daughters, the Red Hats, the Senior Citizens and the Historical Society, all of Girardville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Weist; her six siblings: Alice Klimas, Isabelle Mareski, Thomas Birster, John Birster, Anne Marie Styner and Rosemary O’Connell.
Jean is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 9th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland with Fr. Brian Miller, pastor, as the celebrant. Friends are invited to her viewing at the church on Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Fountain Springs.
