Schuylkill County Historical Society is hosting several events in September that’ll interest local history buffs.
Here’s a look at what’s coming up on the Society’s calendar:
John O’Hara Walking Tour
Join the Historical Society on a John O’Hara walking tour on Saturday, Sept. 18. The event celebrating the life of the famous author starts at 11 a.m. and participants will meet at the O’Hara statue on Centre Street between Howard Avenue and Mahantongo Street.
The walking tour costs $10 for Society members and $15 for the general public.

Boilo Clinic
Amy Dougherty operates a boilo business and n Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 6-8 p.m., she will lead a class on how to make this popular regional drink.
The boilo clinic is being held at Schuylkill County Historical Society headquarters, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.
To participate, you’ll need to bring a one-pint Mason jar and ½ cup to 1 cup of their preferred alcohol. A boilo sampling caps off the evening.
The cost is $25 for Society members and $30 for the general public. Reservations are required.

Learn About Frame Row Homes
Reading Deputy Fire Chief and local historian Michael Glore discusses “Schuylkill County Firefighting: A Legacy of Frame Row Homes” at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the Schuylkill County Historical Society headquarters in Pottsville.
Admission is free for Society members and $5 for the general public.
