Pottsville’s Travis Blankenhorn is on the move once more this season.
After being place on waivers by the Seattle Mariners, he was quickly scooped up by the New York Mets and placed on the 26-man roster ahead of their game at the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Mets are now officially Blankenhorn’s 4th team in Major League Baseball this season.

Blankenhorn Claimed Off Waivers by New York Mets
His 2021 campaign started with the Minnesota Twins before they placed him on waivers. He was picked by the LA Dodgers on May 14, only to be placed on waivers by them, too. Blankenhorn was picked up by the Seattle Mariners but on Tuesday, they placed the Pottsville Area graduate on waivers.
The Mets are dealing with some injury and hitting issues this season and appear to be taking a chance at the unproven utility player. There’s a chance the Mets could send Blankenhorn down to their Triple-A team in Syracuse.
The same day, New York designated Wilfredo Tovar for assignment.
Despite his growing list of rosters on which he’s appeared, Blankenhorn is still only 1-for-3 in his MLB career with a double. Those at-bats came last year in one game with the Twins. Earlier this season, Blankenhorn appeared as an extra-inning pinch runner for Minnesota and scored a run.
The Mets are currently 26-21, atop the National League East division standings.
