There’s now a candle that smells like the snack bar of the former Hills department store.

That’s right. A candle that smells like the Hills snack bar.

A Candle that Smells Like the Hills Snack Bar?

This master creation is the work of Sugar Creek Candle Company, a small business based in Irwin, PA, in Westmoreland County. That’s about 4 hours from us here in Schuylkill County but the company promises in a Facebook ad that it’ll take you back to the front entrance of Hills in the Cressona Mall.

The candle – and wax melts, also available – smells of popcorn, cherry-flavored Icee slushies, and soft pretzel. And if you’re old enough to remember shopping in a Hills store, your smell memories have just been activated.

Sugar Creek Candle Company offers the candle in a 16-ounce Mason jar for just $16. That’s not a lot of dough to relive what for many is a fond childhood memory. The company also offers the scent in a wax tart, too, and that’s just $4.50. (No, we’re not making anything on this post.)

You can order the candle here.

Sugar Creek candles are made from soy wax with a cotton wick. They say a 16-ounce candle will burn for 100 hours.

Hills was one of the two (three if you count the Acme supermarket) anchor stores at the Cressona Mall during its heyday. The other was Laneco, located where the Giant supermarket is today.

It’s actually of the old Acme store when it was taken over and replaced with Insalaco’s before it got a new store where Laneco had been. But you can spot the Hills sign in the background. This was shortly before it became Ames.

And, of course, everyone knows Hills is where the toys are …
