Board members at Pottsville Area School District are set to vote on hiring a new Superintendent at tomorrow night’s regular monthly meeting.
According to the school board meeting agenda, directors there will vote on whether or not to hire Sarah Yoder as the district’s next Superintendent.
If approved as presented, Yoder would be on a contract extending to June 30, 2024 and would start at a salary of $130,000.
The school board will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Pottsville Area to Consider Sarah Yoder as Next Superintendent
If and when Pottsville Area hires Yoder on Wednesday, it would move the district on from the drama that surrounded its former Superintendent Jeff Zwiebel, who was placed on medical leave for about a year until his contract expired. Zwiebel officially retired earlier this month.
When he was placed on leave, the district named Jared Gerace as Acting Superintendent while continuing to pay Zwiebel.
On the night school board members voted to place Zwiebel on leave and name Gerace as Acting Superintendent, many teachers in attendance at that meeting verbally applauded the decision. Several people that night spoke out against Zwiebel, blaming him for a toxic environment at the district.
Previously, the Pottsville Area teachers union had taken a no-confidence vote on the then-Superintendent.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Yoder is the current high school principal at Schuylkill Valley High School in Leesport. She severed as Superintendent at Saint Clair Area from January 2018 until June 2020. And from July 2013 until December 2017, she was high school principal at Schuylkill Haven Area.
