DG Yuengling and Son Inc – better known locally as Yuengling Brewery – once again topped the list of best sales by a craft brewer in 2020.
Yuengling’s presence atop this list, released annually by Brewers Association, is becoming somewhat of a guarantee. The Pottsville-based company topped the same list in 2018 and 2019, too.
Many brewing businesses in the craft beer market were severely impacted by the COVID pandemic in 2020.
Yuengling Brewery Named Top Craft Beer in 2020 Sales
“The COVID-19 pandemic drastically changed where Americans purchased alcohol in 2020. Breweries who had established packaging and distribution capacity were best positioned to take advantage of the boom in off-premise sales and weather market uncertainty,” says Bart Watson, chief economist at Brewers Association.
But if you recall, last year Yuengling made a major announcement by partnering with MolsonCoors to facilitate a massive westward expansion of the brand.
The company also recently released details of a major project at its Tampa, Fla., brewery.

Is Yuengling a Craft Brewer?
We’ve published this article for 3 years now and inevitably, someone always complains that Yuengling is not a craft brewer. But that’s not what Brewers Association says. By its definition, a craft brewer is small and independent. By “small” they mean producing 6 million barrels of beer or less annually. To be considered independent, Brewers Association says less than 25% of a craft brewery can be owned or controlled by an alcoholic beverage industry member that’s not a craft brewer.
