The pressure is mounting on Schuylkill County Commissioner George Halcovage to resign from office amid a scandal that’s been brewing for about a year and really came to a boil in the last two weeks.
A federal lawsuit filed by four Courthouse employees alleges Halcovage subjected them to sexual assault, sexual harassment, and discrimination and that County Solicitor Glenn Roth and County Administrator Gary Bender knew of this behavior but failed to act to prevent it for years.
In the last week, other Schuylkill County row officers, County political party Committee members, and most of our local representation in Harrisburg called on Halcovage to resign from office. A protest on the Courthouse steps on Sunday seeks to force that to happen, too.
Up until now, Halcovage has said he’ll fight back against the allegations, which he denies.
Should Halcovage Stay in Office or Resign?
Last year, after initial calls for him to resign were made, we asked our readers if Halcovage should resign. At the time, 65% of Canary readers agreed that he should step down.
Considering all the new information we have in the form of allegations made in that federal lawsuit, we figured it’s a good time to take the public’s temperature on this subject once again.
In addition to wanting to know if you think Halcovage should resign, let us know if you believe some of the other Courthouse officials – Roth and Bender – should keep their jobs, too.

Halcovage should only resign AFTER Cuomo resigns.
