Despite the current fake news narrative that Republicans don’t want the COVID vaccine, about 15% of Schuylkill County adults approved to get a shot have gotten one.
According to the latest data from the Pennsylvania Dept. of Health, more than 16,000 Schuylkill County residents have now gotten their full, two-dose vaccine course. That includes more than 3,700 residents who got fully vaccinated last week, the most vaccine-y week locally since the shots started getting stuck in residents since December.
From March 7-13, 7,128 shots were administered. That’s 1,001 more shots than the week prior.
By our estimate, 15% of the population is calculated by taking 75% of the estimated Schuylkill County population of 141,000. We took 3/4 of that total because people under the age of 16 aren’t approved to receive a COVID vaccine. And that 15% is only among the Phase 1A group of Schuylkill County residents, those over 65, people with special medical concerns, and those in certain professions.
Knowing that, we’re failing to see how Republicans, in general, are opposed to receiving the vaccine shots. It’s safe to presume many of the 16,000 people who’ve gotten their full dosage are registered Republicans.
According to state data, about 26% of Schuylkill County residents have received their first COVID vaccine shot.
