Schuylkill County Commissioners will meet for the first time on Wednesday and the public can participate via Zoom.
Technically, Commissioners met on Monday to re-organize for the new year. And since no official actions were taken in that regard earlier this week, we can assume Boots Hetherington will continue to serve as Chairman for 2021.
Schuylkill County Commissioners Work Session Meeting – Jan. 6, 2021
Commissioners will once again get together at the terribly inconvenient time of 10 a.m. Wednesday. The COVID pandemic has closed these meetings to public attendance but you can still participate, somewhat, by calling in and listening to the Zoom call the County will host.
Here’s how to attend the meeting virtually:
- Call: 1-301-715-8592
- Enter Meeting ID: 986 6091 9197 followed by the # sign
- Enter the Passcode: 829175
New public comment rules prohibit the public from actually speaking during these meetings and any public comments were to be submitted to the Courthouse by 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Those same rules only give the public 5 hours to look at the meeting agenda and then write up public comments that may or may not be read by Chairman Hetherington, based on what he feels is appropriate for the meeting.
Late last year, we found that Hetherington started openly editing comments and refusing to read comments he determined to be redundant. At the meeting following that incident, Boots then read all comments received.
There are 2 public comments sections, one at the beginning of the meeting for commentary on items included on this week’s agenda and another at the end of the meeting for comments on random items.
Here’s a look at the agenda for this week’s meeting:
