Edward Francis Kalyan Sr., age 73, of Pottsville passed away Tuesday, December 8th, 2020 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, East in Pottsville from complications due to the COVID-19 virus.
Born in Pottsville on July 18, 1947, he was the son of the late George and Matilda (Prokop) Kalyan. Ed was a graduate of Saint Clair High School, Class of 1965, where he played high school football and excelled as a baseball pitcher.
He worked as a sales rep for first aid and safety supply companies for most of his career.
Ed was a member of the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Minersville and was very active with the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Saint Clair.
Ed helped coach Pottsville Midget Football for over 35 years, as well as minor league baseball for Railway Park.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life. After retirement, Ed became a coin collector, loved going to the casino, and did a lot of traveling.
He loved watching his grandsons’ sports games and band performances, and spending lots of time with his family.
His family will miss him terribly this Christmas, but will continue their annual tradition of dunking Christmas cookies in his honor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother George Kalyan. Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sharon F. (Bohr) Kalyan; three sons: Edward Kalyan Jr. and his wife Rachel, Michael Kalyan and his fiancé Heather McFadden, and Mark Kalyan and his wife Alexandra; his beloved five grandsons: Joshua, Nathan, Mason, Miles, and Maverick; a brother Ronald Kalyan Sr.; and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
Funeral Services and interment will be held private at this time and a Celebration of Life Service will be held in the coming Summer.
