πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Joseph J. Sabadish, 94 – Part of the Greatest Generation

Joseph J. Sabadish, 94, of West West Terrace, passed away Thursday evening at the Lehigh Valley Hospital – South, in Pottsville

Born in Branchdale, he was a son of the late Paul and Anna (Wenanski) Sabadish.

In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a brother Paul and sister Catherine.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 70 years, the former Irene Simminitus; 3 daughters, Rita Hahner (Bill), Margaret Fabrizio (Anthony) and Rose Yelchak (Joseph); 2 sisters, Mary Mistician and Elizabeth Sabadish; 3 grandsons, Bill (Amy), Jason (Meghan) and Kurt (Kellie); 3 great grandchildren, Harrison, Gabriella and Josephina as well as nieces and nephews.

Joseph attended St Mary Star of the Sea grade school and was a graduate of Reilly Twp. High School. He was a member of the β€œGreatest Generation”, having served as an Army medic in France and Germany following the Normandy invasion. He attained the rank of Sergeant. He worked as a coal miner before working as a heavy equipment operator for PennDOT until retirement. Following retirement, Joseph worked an additional 25 years as an attendant at Butler Funeral Home.

He was a life member of the South Cass Fire Company, The American Legion Post 544 and a member of the former St Stanislaus Holy Name society where he also served as a parish usher.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 9:45 AM in St. Matthew’s Church, 139 Spruce St., Minersville. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 7AM to 9:15 AM at the Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville. Visitors and attendees are asked to follow CDC guidelines. Family Interment with Military Honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association. Contributions will be accepted at the funeral home.
