Sterling I. Shappell, 64, of Orwigsburg, passed away Sunday, August 30th, at Reading Hospital, West Reading, Berks County.
Sterling was born in Pottsville, on June 17, 1956, a son of the late Mary Jane (Griffiths) and Sterling D. Shappell.
He was the beloved husband of Joy A. (Timmins) Shappell. They would of celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on September 13.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ Schuylkill Haven, Roedersville Gun Club, and the Pine Creek Fishing Club at Kunkle’s Damn.
He was a graduate of Blue Mountain High School Class of 1972. He was an avid outdoors man, always liked being a coach, loved being a Pappy and Dad to his girls and going on adventures with his wife.
He worked as a buyer at Prysmian Group for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by a brother Charles Shappell
Sterling is survived by two daughters, Amy, wife ofMichael Garofalo, of Coventry, RI; Ashley Shappell, of Schuylkill Haven, grandsons Benjamin and Jacob Garofalo; sister Kathy Howell wife of Craig, Schuylkill Haven; nieces and nephews; and grand pup Nittany.
A Religious Service was held Sept. 2 at Geschwindt Stabingas Funeral Home, Inc. in Schuylkill Haven, PA with Rev. Ms. Shawn Van Dyke officiating.
Family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions to Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation, 704 Lisborn Road #102, Camp Hill PA 17011.
