Joan M. Bettinger, 73 – Enjoyed Baking for Friends on Atlantic City Trips

Joan M. Bettinger, 73, of Minersville, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Seton Manor in Orwigsburg.

Born in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Marzinsky Bettinger. She attended the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parochial School and was a 1965 graduate of Nativity B.V.M. High School. She was employed for many years as a cook at the former Quality Shoppe in town and also worked in other local restaurants.

She was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the Church’s Women’s Sodality. She was a current member of Holy Family Parish of Minersville. She was a dedicated poll worker at the Second Precinct, Minersville.

Joan enjoyed baking, especially for fellow riders on bus trips to Atlantic City casinos. She was also active in the Food Pantry at Zion Lutheran Church where she enjoyed many friendships.

Preceding her in death were her three siblings, Leo Bettinger, Arlene Pinshock and Patricia Demcher.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Lori Schneider (spouse, Craig), Sparta, New Jersey; two cherished grandsons, Riley Joseph Schneider and Remick Howard Schneider; nieces and nephew.

The family will accept visitors at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville, on Thursday from 7:00 A.M. Visitation will end promptly at 9:15 A.M. when procession will form. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. in St. Michael the Archangel Church, 539 Sunbury Street, Minersville. Interment will be private in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Minersville. Visitors and attendees are expected to follow CDC guidelines.

The family prefers donations to Hillside SPCA, PO Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901.
