A man dressed in full camo was reportedly shot in the leg while he slept in a chair in the woods near Pottsville on Sunday.
State Police in Schuylkill Haven are still searching for answers in this puzzling case.
Man in Camo Shot in the Leg While Sleeping in the Woods
According to information from police, a 72-year-old man dressed “in full camouflage” was asleep in a chair Sunday afternoon near a pond in a wooded area east of Peach Mountain Rd. in Norwegian Township.
At about 5:30 that afternoon, the man woke up to the sound of gunshots. That’s when he realized he was shot in the leg. Police say he was shot “by a small caliber round.”
When the man realized he was shot, he looked across the pond and says he saw two men. One of them, he said, carried an “AR-15 style” gun.
The man described the two across the pond as being in their late 20s or early 30s. One had a dark beard and the other didn’t have a beard but had “sandy” colored hair. He says the duo didn’t come to offer him any help and, instead, dashed off.
The victim of the shooting wasn’t discovered until Monday morning. That’s when a pair of hikers discovered him. Emergency personnel were summoned to the scene and the shot man was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
Police are calling this incident an accidental shooting. They believe the man was shot by mistake. But anyone with information that may shed light onto it are asked to call the Schuylkill Haven barracks at 570-593-2000.
