The Rich Family of Companies and Olympus Power announced Thursday they’ve donated much-needed PPE (personal protective equipment) to St. Luke’s Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale.
The donation announced through state Sen. Dave Argall includes the following items that are highly sought after in the medical community in the fight against COVID-19 coronavirus:
- 370 masks
- 181 protective suits
- 3,310 pair of gloves
PPE Donated to St. Luke’s Coaldale Hospital
The two companies with coal region ties worked with Argall and U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser to facilitate the donation.
Due to shortages of these items integral to the safety of medical professionals and patients in the fight against coronavirus, some U.S. manufacturers and small businesses have joined the effort to create more.
“It is wonderful to see Schuylkill County’s coal and power companies step up to help out with St. Luke’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Argall says in a statement released today. “It is of the utmost importance at this moment in time that we do everything we can to support our brave health care workers who are on the front lines of this fight. I would like to commend all four of the companies who donated their supplies today.”
Wendy Lazo, president of St. Luke’s in Coaldale, says in a statement Thursday, “We are beyond grateful for the support of our community leaders and local business partners during this trying time. Our clinicians and staff at the front lines of this crisis make sacrifices every day to care for our community and this goes a long way in showing them our community appreciates their service.”
“Thank you to the Rich Family of Companies and Olympus Power for donating personal protective equipment to the St. Luke’s Miners Campus. Since the coronavirus outbreak began, I have been actively involved in picking up and delivering supplies to local health care facilities. These contributions and acts of kindness are why the people of the 9th District are the best in America. Such generosity and collaboration will help us get past this crisis faster,” Meuser says.
The Rich Family of Companies includes numerous entities, most notably Reading Anthracite Company, Jack Rich Inc., and Coal Creek Commerce Center.
Olympus Power owns and operates, among other facilities nationwide, the Panther Creek Energy facility in Nesquehoning.
