You’ve heard it before: the meal some students get in school is the only one they’ll get for the day. It’s likely true here in Schuylkill County, too.
That makes the next two weeks while schools are closed due to a potential coronavirus outbreak a difficult time for some families even more difficult.
Well, one local organization in Schuylkill County is trying to do something about that.
Pottsville Area Group Organizing Food Drive for Hungry Students During Coronavirus Break
Dustin’s Adventureland announced soon after schools were closed for two weeks that they’re organizing a free lunch delivery service for students in need during the coronavirus break.
The group says it built Schuylkill County’s first “all-inclusive” playground for special needs children. And it’s organizing the food drive with the help of some local businesses and volunteers in the Pottsville area.
They clearly indicate this food drive is independent of any school lunch offered by schools when they’re closed on coronavirus fears.
You’ll have to get a hold of this group quickly in order to make sure they can organize food for you. Organizers tell us you should reach them by noon Monday to get in a request.
You can reach them by Facebook Messenger or by email at dustinsadventureland@gmail.com.
They’re currently making deliveries in the following areas:
- Pottsville
- Palo Alto
- Port Carbon
- Mount Carbon
- Saint Clair
- Mechanicsville
- New Castle Township
- Minersville
If you don’t see your municipality on this list, Dustin’s Adventureland will be announcing a pick-up location in Pottsville on Monday.
Organizers say the following businesses have contributed greatly to the effort already:
- Skook Autos
- Skook House of Jerky
- Aaron’s of Pottsville
- Womer Landscaping
- Mechanicsville Fish and Game
They also wanted to thank St. Patrick’s church in Pottsville as well as their food pantry for assistance with their cause.
Money donations can be made to:
Dustin’s Adventureland
PO Box 132
Pottsville, PA 17901
Further, the group is taking food donations that can be dropped off at Mechanicsville Fish and Game after 3 p.m. Send the group a private message by the means listed above to arrange your contribution. Right now, they’re looking for the following items:
- Water
- Juice boxes
- Huggies
- Cookies
- Snack packs
- Pudding
- Yogurts
- Small take-out containers
