The Fairlane Village Mall outside Pottsville may not be as dead as people think.
In a recent edition of All Around the Town by Sam-Son Productions, a member of the mall’s management team hinted at big plans in the near future.
Rocco Arruzzo, the Pennsylvania Regional Manager for Lexington Realty International, said two big tenants are coming to the Fairlane Village Mall property.
Lexington manages leases for the mall, which is owned by a company called Pottsville Mall LLC.
2 “Major National” Stores Hinted for Fairlane Village Mall Near Pottsville
Arruzzo stopped short of identifying which stores, exactly, would be coming to the mall but he did tell All Around the Town host Sam Lesante where they’d be going at the mall.
New Tenant for Former Amelia’s Grocery Store
First, Arruzzo revealed, is a new tenant for the former Amelia’s grocery store.
“We are in the process of a negotiation with a national company to move right in next to Harbor Freight,” Arruzzo says.
“Big National Chain” Taking Over
Arruzzo also says Brothers Buffet Chinese restaurant is moving to the former Wells Fargo branch inside the mall. That’s right outside the mall entrance to Boscov’s and across the way from Super Shoes.
Wells Fargo closed at Fairlane Village back in 2017 and the space inside has been empty since then.
But the real news here is the reason Brothers Buffet is moving. Arruzzo tells Lesante on his program, “We have a big national chain that’s going to take that whole wing over.” He also called the prospective tenant a “major department store.”
The property manager says plans are being finalized to block off the now-isolated Brothers Buffet area of the mall, located on the opposite side of Dunham’s Sports. That sounds like the same concept used to build self-contained Michaels, Kohl’s, and Dunham’s stores.
Dunhams, unlike the other two, still has a mall entrance.
Arruzzo says activity will begin soon up at the mall on this project, specifically.
“That should be happening in the next 60 days,” he said on Lesante’s show.
More New Additions
Again, Arruzzo is short on specifics regarding new tenant names. But he also hinted at 2 more tenants for inside the mall. He said there are plans for a pizza restaurant as well as someone taking over the former Coney Express. That restaurant recently closed after more than 40 years in business at the mall.
Retail Boom Along Route 61?
If true, these retail additions just outside Pottsville are positive signs for the area, no matter which stores occupy these spaces.
In addition to the proposed upgrades at Fairlane Village Mall, we first reported over the weekend about construction starting on the new ALDI store on the northbound side of Route 61, across the highway from the mall. Additionally, a Jersey Mike’s Subs is rumored to be taking over the property where AAMCO Transmissions stood for years.

Good luck trying to buy fabric at Walmart. There is never anyone around to assist you then you must go and wait in line for half an hour because they only have one checker on the registers! Booooo

They wont because they have it in their contract that no other fabric and craft stores can be near them…at least that’s what it was 25 years ago when I managed one.

I am all for a Barnes and Nobles. We need a good book store to browse and buy. Also how about another movie theatre so we don’t have to drive up the mountain to Hazleton.

American Eagle and Target would be great. Also I think the mall would be smart to divide some of the stores up into maybe three sections and allow start up venders a place to try their hand at running a business. Maybe they do well and expand into a double space should one not work out, or even move into a full space. Maybe the Mall could have one of their people come in every few months in the evening and offer some business guidance. Some 101, do’s and dont’s. They may be able to spot some trouble in advance and help. If they do, they stay in business and continue to rent even pay more for larger spaces if they grow. The younger consumer wants to buy from small specialty shops. A more local personal shopping experience offering a unique product with an emphasis on green, organic, things that US made etc. Those are things small start ups can deliver. People that are selling products on eBay and can’t afford a brick and mortar store. The mall should take a small area and at least pilot a program that gives those people a shot to see if there is success. A small skate shop or someone who sells random used items of interest.

Great ideas! Love the idea of creating smaller spaces for small businesses, who have been priced out of the mall in the past. Some malls are experimenting with this concept already.
