Michael “Mickey” Matukaitis, 46 – Made Pizza for 29 Years at Mattucci’s

Michael C. “Mickey” Matukaitis, 46, Mount Carmel, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born in Ashland, he was the son of Charles and Geraldine Sweigart Matukaitis, Mount Carmel. He worked for Mattucci’s Willow Cafe, Mount Carmel for 29 years doing what he loved to do, make pizza.

Mickey was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed cheering on the New York Yankees, New York Giants and Notre Dame. He enjoyed local history and sports trivia. Mickey belonged to many social clubs in Mount Carmel including the VFW, Sons of Poland, Lithuanian Club, West End Athletic Club, the Clover Hose Fire Company and a patron of Dorko’s Cafe.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his four sisters: Kathleen and her husband JT Kelley, Mount Carmel, Barbara and her husband Todd Cromer, Holly Springs, NC, Carolyn Miller, Frederick, MD, Susan Matukaitis and her husband Jim McHale, Locust Gap; his brother, Shawn and his wife Tara Matukaitis, Shamokin; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, from the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine Street Mount Carmel, PA with Rev. Francis Karwacki officiating. Friends are invited to his viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Susan Matukaitis at 157 Railroad Street Locust Gap, PA 17840 to help defray funeral expenses.
