We’re following 5 Schuylkill League girls basketball teams as they try for a 2020 PIAA championship.
Blue Mountain, Jim Thorpe, North Schuylkill, Mahanoy Area, and Nativity BVM all want to make it to Hershey for a chance at state gold.
2020 PIAA Girls Basketball Championships

Class 1A – First Round – Nativity BVM vs. Sullivan County
The PIAA Class 1A Girls Basketball championship gets underway on Saturday, March 7.
In the first round, District XI champion Nativity BVM takes on the #3 seed out of District IV, Sullivan County. That game tips off at 1 p.m. at Martz Hall in Pottsville.
If the Golden Girls win, they’ll take on the winner of Greenwood vs. Morrisville.
Class 2A – First Round – Mahanoy Area vs. Southern Columbia
The PIAA Class 2A Girls Basketball championship gets underway on Friday, March 6.
In the first round, local attention is on District XI champions Mahanoy Area. They’ll tip off on Friday night against Southern Columbia, the #3 seed out of District IV.
That games gets underway at 6 p.m. at Martz Hall in Pottsville.
Class 3A – First Round – North Schuylkill vs. Motivation
The PIAA Class 3A Girls Basketball championship gets underway on Friday, March 6.
In the first round, District XI champs North Schuylkill take on the #5 seed out of District XII, Motivation. That gets underway at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Martz Hall in Pottsville.
Class 4A – First Round – Jim Thorpe vs. Bonner Pendergast
The PIAA Class 4A Girls Basketball championship gets underway on Saturday, March 7.
In the first round, District XI runner-up Jim Thorpe takes on the #3 seed out of District XII, Bonner Pendergast.
That games gets underway at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Lehighton Elementary School.
Class 5A – First Round – Blue Mountain vs. Villa Maria
The PIAA Class 5A Girls Basketball championship gets underway on Saturday, March 7.
In the first round, District XI champs Blue Mountain will take on the #5 seed out of District I, Villa Maria. That happens at 2:30 on Saturday afternoon at Martz Hall in Pottsville.
