National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Schuylkill County starting Wednesday evening.
The Winter Weather Advisory lasts from 8 p.m. Wednesday until 10 a.m. Thursday.
Winter Weather Advisory – Schuylkill County – Feb. 5-6
Forecasters say Pottsville can expect less than one-tenth of an inch of sleet and ice accumulations of about one-tenth of an inch.
Higher elevations in the coal region should expect heavier amounts of frozen precipitation from Wednesday night’s weather maker.
Roads could get slippery from the icy precip. That risk is greater, of course, the higher in elevation you are. Bridges and overpasses freeze before roadways.
Temperatures are expected to rise well above freezing on Thursday after the Winter Weather Advisory expires.
However, that doesn’t mean an end to the rain. In fact, Accuweather.com predicts the potential for flooding rain through the day and night Thursday.
More than an inch of rain is expected in Pottsville through Thursday night. Rain finally lets up on Friday morning with high temps each day in the middle to upper 40s.
