Coal Region Canary is picking up where Fantasy Flashlight left off at the end of the NFL regular season to expand its daily fantasy sports coverage. We’re debuting daily NBA fantasy advice today.
We’ll provide daily fantasy NBA lineups for FanDuel. The Canary will enter into very small stakes games and then report on how we did the previous day. And as Fantasy Flashlight did during the NFL season, all our fantasy advice is 100% free.
So, without further adieu … let’s tip this thing off.
January 23 NBA Schedule
It’s a light schedule in the Association tonight, just 3 games. Two of the three should be good matchups.
- Washington at Cleveland, 7 p.m.
- LA Lakers at Brooklyn, 8 p.m.
- Dallas at Portland, 10:30 p.m.
Such a light schedule makes the pickings pretty slim and hard to pick a lineup much different than the thousands of other players competing.
Tonight’s lineup got entered into a few small stakes games, including:
- $13K Thu NBA Piggy Bank Shot (150 Entries Max)
- $26K Thu NBA Fadeaway (Only $0.25 to Enter)
- $50 NBA Small Fadeaway (Everyone Gets Paid)
We didn’t invest in anything more than 25 cents to enter. The Canary isn’t looking to make a career out of Fantasy NBA, just playing along.

Breakdown
We’re looking at a lot of points in at least 2 of the 3 games tonight but wouldn’t be surprised if all 3 are shootouts. That said, the players you want to target tonight are pretty obvious.
So, let’s break down the lineup and we’ll show you where we think we’ll get an advantage.
Luka Doncic, PG
Hard to avoid Luka in tonight’s lineup. Going up against a defense-optional Portland team could mean big numbers for Doncic. Believe that everyone’s building around him today.
Ish Smith, PG
The one-time Sixers Process filler is getting more minutes in DC. He’s outplaying Isaiah Thomas to not many’s surprise. He’s got a favorable matchup in Cleveland tonight.
Bradley Beal, SG
Beal may be trying to play himself into a trade to a contender. Expect him to shoot plenty until the deadline. Would be nice if he were getting fed from Smith instead of Thomas.
Danny Green, SG
Green continues to be a consistent contributor. Should get a lot of looks tonight as the Nets focus on AD and Lebron.
Cedi Osman, SF
Osman has been consistent but quiet with the Cavs this year. When he gets looks, he can bury the ball from deep. Should get those looks tonight against a Washington team that struggles on defense.
Lebron James, SF
Another guy everyone’s going to have in their lineup tonight. And for good reason. Lebron is putting up sensational numbers. Can’t avoid him tonight because the Nets won’t be able to stop him.
Kyle Kuzma, PF
Kuzma is developing nicely as the Lakers roll over the competition. Expect another big night for him tonight in Brooklyn.
Kevin Love, PF
Here’s another guy looking to play his way out of a bad situation. Love still has a lot to contribute and he’d probably like to do it less and less for the Cavs. Lots of missed shots tonight with the Wizards in town should equal a lot of boards for Love.
Dwight Howard, C
One sign there aren’t many games tonight — we’re picking Dwight Howard.
In the Money
This is our first day so we’re coming into this with a $0 balance.
We’ve put a whopping 70 cents into today’s contests.
So, as of now, we’re ($0.70).
