Patrick Murphy Murder Case - The Latest

Megan Hall Murder Trial Delayed Until March

There’s a (another) new date for the Megan Hall murder trial.

Hall is accused of killing Pottsville businessman Patrick Murphy last February.

Death of Patrick Murphy – Megan Hall Trial Delayed to March 23

On Tuesday morning in New Orleans, Judge Dennis Waldron approved a joint motion for a continuance in Hall’s murder trial.

The trial originally got scheduled for October 2019. It was supposed to start today but now is slated to begin March 23. A pre-trial conference was also scheduled for March 6.

According to records, Hall appeared in court today with attorney Marcus Delarge. Orleans Parish Assistant District Attorney Eric Cusimano represented the state in court Tuesday.

The Canary learned that this delay is due to a scheduling conflict for Hall’s other attorney, John Fuller. He’s involved in another, older, case that’s going to trial this week.

The prosecution hoped for a February start date with the continuance. Conflicts during that time likely pushed the defense to request a lengthier delay, until after Mardi Gras. In New Orleans, courts are closed starting the week of February 24 for Mardi Gras.

Hall faces the following charges related to Murphy’s death:

  • Second-degree murder
  • Armed robbery
  • Obstruction of justice-homicide investigation

If she’s found guilty on the murder charge, Hall would spend the rest of her life in prison. She’s been in a New Orleans jail since early March last year after turning herself in to police following Murphy’s death.
