Football teams that didn’t qualify for District playoff tournaments during the 2019 season had one last chance for an extra game.
That’s the 2019 Eastern Football Conference championships.
A couple of teams from our area will be playing this weekend for these consolation prizes after completing good seasons.
Eastern Football Conference 3A Championship
- Salisbury Twp. (6-4) at Jim Thorpe (7-3), Nov. 1 at 7pm
In the 3A Division championship, Salisbury travels to Jim Thorpe.
The Olympians were this year’s odd team out of the District XI Class 3A playoffs. They finished the regular season at 7-3 but lost some key games during the Schuylkill League portion of their schedule. Also, District XI only takes 4 teams in the Class 3A playoffs even though at least 7 teams in that class had a good case for making the playoffs.
In its last regular season game, Jim Thorpe defeated its Route 209 rival Lehighton, 21-7.
Last week, Salisbury lost at Southern Lehigh, 58-22. It won its two games before that, defeating Palmerton and Bangor.
Eastern Football Conference- 4A Championship
- Big Spring at Hamburg, Nov. 1 at 7pm
The Hawks spent about half of its season against local competition.
Hamburg defeated Panther Valley and Minersville but lost to Blue Mountain and Mahanoy Area.
