Full Schuylkill League Schedule Kicks Off Week 6 of Coal Region Football

We’re more than halfway through the 2019 Schuylkill County high school football season and it’s finally going to start heating up.

This week, locals will have their pick of some pretty good games. Let’s take a look at the full schedule this weekend.

Canary Picks Stays Hot – Season Record 44-15

But before we get to the schedule, we’re taking this chance to update you on our picks this week and how we’re doing on the season. We are absolutely certain that you’re following.

Last week, the Canary went 9-2, a week after going 10-1. We got tripped up picking Blue Mountain over Tamaqua in the Schuylkill League opener. And we were on the wrong side of Mahanoy Area’s thrilling overtime win against Hamburg.

Regardless, the week helped improve our overall success this season. At 9-2, the Canary’s record improves to 44-15 through 5 weeks of games. That’s a 74.5% success rate. Not too shabby but we feel it’s going to get tougher the rest of the way.

Schuylkill County High School Football Schedule – Week 6

Here’s a look at the big games this weekend around the area:

Pottsville (4-1, 0-0 Schuylkill) at Tamaqua (5-0, 1-0 Schuylkill)

Both teams come into this highly anticipated clash off big wins last week.

The Blue Raiders squashed Blue Mountain last week at the Eagles Nest stadium. And Pottsville throttled Interboro on the road last Friday.

Would be kinda fun if the teams and fans could travel by train to and from this game but they can’t.

Canary Picks: Tamaqua 38, Pottsville 28

Jim Thorpe (5-0) at North Schuylkill (4-1)

This is the Schuylkill League opener for each of these teams.

The Olympians come in to this one largely untested. They’ve allowed 7 points all season. But North Schuylkill’s gone up against some stiff competition and is battle tested. They got a good run at them last week from Mount Carmel.

The Spartans are always tough at home and they seem particularly fond of that new field. The Olympians might need actual Jim Thorpe for this one but we could be wrong.

Canary Picks: North Schuylkill 35, Jim Thorpe 17

Mahanoy Area (3-2, 0-0 Schuylkill) at Schuylkill Haven (1-4, 1-0 Schuylkill)

The Golden Bears show an ability to win games this year, pulling out a couple of close calls in the first half of the season. Now, they have a chance to assert themselves atop Schuylkill League Division 2.

Haven got its first win of the season last week, disposing Marian. They’ll look to keep the winning going this week at home.

Canary Picks: Mahanoy Area 26, Schuylkill Haven 12

Williams Valley (5-0, 4-0 Tri-Valley) at Line Mountain (3-2, 3-1 TVC)

The Vikings started the season slower than any undefeated team this year. But after that sluggish two quarters of football, they’ve been basically unstoppable.

Literally every game in the Tri-Valley Conference is a rivalry game and this one is no exception. But it could be a tough flight for the Eagles, even at home.

Canary Picks: Williams Valley 36, Line Mountain 18

More Tri-Valley Conference Action

Two more local teams are competing in Tri-Valley Conference action this weekend. Here’s a look at those contests (Canary Picks in Bold) including a good chance for the Dawgs.

Juniata at Pine Grove
Halifax at Tri-Valley

Non-league

The non-league schedule only had a single game this week:

Montgomery 14, Nativity BVM 3
