Tamaqua Remains Ahead of North Schuylkill on Latest WNEP Super 16 Football Countdown Rankings

wnep super 16

The WNEP Super 16 Football Countdown Rankings have looked the same the last two weeks.

And as we head into Week 5 of the Coal Region football season, let’s take a look at where the local teams stand in relation to the rest of Northeast Pennsylvania.

Tamaqua Edging North Schuylkill … For Now

The non-league schedule for most local teams ends this week. After that, we’ll get into the bulk of Schuylkill League action. And the lopsided scores that have pretty much dulled the opening of this season should come to an end, or at least not be so frequent.

So for now, Tamaqua remains just ahead of North Schuylkill on the Week 4 Super 16 Football Countdown Rankings. This week, like last, the 4-0 Blue Raiders come in 7th on the countdown. That’s just ahead of #8 North Schuylkill, which many consider the best team in the county.

The Spartans are 3-1. The lone ding on their schedule is a loss to Wyomissing earlier this season.

That’s the same Wyomissing team that took care of Pottsville in double-overtime in Week 2 this season. Pottsville remains at #15 in the WNEP rankings. That is 5 spots below another Schuylkill League Division 1 team, Jim Thorpe. The Olympians are locked in right now at #10 with WNEP.

And the other local team that’s getting some attention the last two weeks is Williams Valley. The Tri-Valley Conference front-runners are 4-0 and round out the WNEP rankings the last 2 weeks, at $16.

Here’s a look at the full WNEP Super 16 Football Rankings:

  1. Southern Columbia (4-0)
  2. Valley View (4-0)
  3. Dallas (4-0)
  4. Berwick (4-0)

Congratulations to all the area teams especially Tamaqua. They deserve a great round of applause for the past two years of how they have accomplished many things. Keep up the good work!
