BB&T Bank Robbed in Pottsville – Suspect in Custody

UPDATE: Suspect in the bank robbery at BB&T in downtown Pottsville this morning is identified as Rikki Jay Williams, of Pottsville.

Court documents show Pottsville Police charge Williams with a felony robbery charge for demanding money from a bank and misdemeanor crimes of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, disorderly conduct, and drug possession.

Williams is 24 years old.

Charges against Williams were filed earlier today in District Court 21-3-07, presided over by Judge James Reiley.

Pottsville Police report they have a suspect in custody connected with a bank robbery downtown Thursday morning.

According to police, the BB&T Bank at 9 North Centre St. in Pottsville was robbed this morning.

We’re piecing together details on this story throughout the day and will have more later in the day. Pottsville PD will release a statement later today with details on the incident downtown this morning.

At 10:45 a.m., Pottsville PD posted this message on Twitter:

BB&T Bank in downtown Pottsville is the site of the former HL Greene’s store and has undergone a few name changes as a bank since then.

On June 19 last year, the M&T Bank on the next block south on Centre Street in Pottsville was robbed.
