Girls Soccer – Pottsville Moves Into D1 Tie; Minersville Goal-palooza, Part 3

Pottsville’s girls’ soccer team collected a key league victory Tuesday, shutting out Pine Grove, 2-0.

According to the school, Ava Goodman and Ryleigh Cook each collected a goal and an assist in the game.

The win puts the Lady Tide level with Blue Mountain in the early running of Division 1 action with a 2-0 record. The loss is Pine Grove’s first league loss of the season.

In other Division 1 games, Jim Thorpe turned in a clean sheet against Lehighton, 4-0. And Tamaqua found the back of the net 7 times in a shutout victory over North Schuylkill.

Minersville Offense on Overdrive

Minersville’s girls’s soccer team seemingly got off to a high-flying start at the beginning of league play. Tuesday may be an indication it was just heating up.

After putting in 6 goals in each of the first two matches, the Miners put in 11 on Tuesday against Weatherly. Minersville is 3-0 in league play and alone atop Division 2.

In the other matches Tuesday, Lourdes edged Tri-Valley, 3-2. And it was the same scoreline for Schuylkill Haven in its win over Nativity.

Next Up …

The girls’ teams return to the pitch on Thursday.

Minersville looks to continue its net-filling ways in a match at Nativity. Williams Valley visits Weatherly and Schuylkill Haven goes to Tri-Valley in Division 2 action.

The big schools get together when Blue Mountain goes to Pottsville, Pine Grove heads out to Tamaqua, and North Schuylkill takes a trip to Lehighton.
