North Schuylkill became the second Schuylkill League team to win a District 11 baseball championship.
On Monday, the Spartans used a walk-off walk to score the winning run over Northwestern Lehigh in the bottom of the 7th. Final score: North Schuylkill 3, Northwestern Lehigh 2.
North Schuylkill took an early lead in the title game, played at Pottsville.
Jake Hall doubled home Brandon Rockwell in the bottom of the 2nd inning to get North Schuylkill on the board.
Northwestern Lehigh tied the game in the top of the 4th, 1-1.
The rest of the day was dominated by pitching, including the Spartans’ Reggie Crawford.
Crawford struck out 8 Northwestern Lehigh pitchers before getting the hook due to hitting his max pitch count in the top of the 7th inning. Crawford left the game with a pair of runners on base. The Spartans were able to escape a bases-loaded jam in the inning, only surrendering a run.
Trailing 2-1 with 3 outs left to rally for the District championship, North Schuylkill hopped on the base paths early in the bottom of the 7th.
Zach Chowansky singled. Then, Zack Stokes doubled him to third.
Crawford was walked intentionally, loading the bases with Spartans and no one out.
A sacrifice fly tied the game at 2-2, scoring Chowansky.
The Tigers then walked Max Schally to once again load the bases. However, Jake Green waited out four pitches outside the strike zone to draw another walk and driving in the winning run.
